World-class Classical Guitar in Wilmington, Delaware

The Wilmington Classical Guitar Society is proud to present virtuoso guitarist Paulo Martelli in a rare USA appearance! This performance follows engagements at The Kennedy Center on the 26th, and Carnegie’s Weill Hall on the 28th. A concert not to be missed!!

Praised for his lyrical voice and ebullient virtuosity, Paulo Martelli is recognized as one of the greatest and most influential guitarists in Brazil today. A gifted performer, he has appeared frequently in concerts, master classes and on television, displaying both remarkable facility and astute interpretation. He is also a dedicated scholar and pedagogue, and through his efforts has become one of the leading proponents of the classical guitar in Brazil.

In addition to regular performances, Paulo is also a professor at the Escola de Música do Estado de São Paulo and founder of Movimento Violão, the premier concert series for the guitar in Brazil.

The program will include works of Bach played on the 11-string guitar, and selections by Brazilian and North American composers played on the 6-string guitar.

A reception will follow the concert.

Matthew Lavanish

Matthew Lavanish is a graduate of the University of Delaware where he received both his Bachelor\’s and Master\’s degrees in Music with a concentration in classical guitar performance under the instruction of Christiaan Taggart. He has also studied extensively with guitarist Alice Artzt of Princeton and Brazilian guitarist Paulo Martelli, and has played in master classes for Jason Vieaux, The Katona Twins and Eleftheria Kotzia, among others.

Matthew is President, Artistic Director and Co-Founder of the Wilmington Classical Guitar Society, as well as an aspiring luthier. He currently teaches privately and in the past has taught at or served on the faculty of: The Music School of Delaware, The St. Andrew\’s School and the Community Music School at The University of Delaware.
