We’re excited to kick off our fifth anniversary season with Delaware guitarist and 2014 Delaware Division of the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship winner Matthew Smith. Join us on October 25th for an exciting program of classical guitar music including duos with soprano and violin. Works by Bach, Torroba, Albéniz, Villa-Lobos, Piazzolla and more.

Matthew Smith has been an active performer, teacher, and clinician for many years now. His primary studies were with Ernesto Bitetti at the Indiana University Jacob’s School of Music where he obtained his Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in guitar performance. He has participated in masterclasses with Pablo Ziegler, the Castellani Andriaccio guitar duo, and Sharon Isbin where he was a full scholarship recipient at the Aspen Music Festival. Currently he is on the faculty at The Music School of Delaware where he also serves as the Student and Alumni Relations Officer.

This year he was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship by the State of Delaware Division of the Arts. As a part of the fellowship he will be delivering a series of concerts in the Delaware area. Other recent engagements included being a featured recording artist with Christian Artist Tlisa and being invited to hold a series of guitar workshops at Stax Records in Memphis, TN. He has also collaborated in performances and recording sessions at Indiana University’s Latin American Music Center and he assisted in the production of the inaugural Indiana Guitar Festival and Competition. Matthew previously held teaching positions at Porterville Summer Strings in Porterville, CA, as a founding member of the organization, and Indiana University. He has performed throughout the country from coast to coast and looks forward to coming to a stage near you!
